Jay Wehnert over at Intuitive Eye has recently posted a new blog post on Folk Artist Johnnie Swearingen. Folk art has a long tradition of so-called “Memory Painters”, those who use the memories of their lives as the source material for their art. Johnnie Swearingen, born in 1908 in the community of Campground Church, near Chappell Hill, Texas, is regarded as one of the best painters of his own memories of rural African American Texas culture.
